February 22, 2004 :: httpd/mysql issue

For the past 30 minutes, you may have noticed that your sites have been up and down.  Mysql is involved so any database-driven features may have also reported errors.

Initial investigation looks as though there may have been some sort of DOS attack or a runaway cron job of some kind.  We are continuing to look into this and I will report whatever findings we get in this thread.

All other services (including email) continued to function properly during this time.

This issue should now be resolved.

There was a large amount of traffic on a client account that was also utilizing mysql.  One file in question was calling on mysql in such a way that it hung up those services.  There doesn't seem to be any sort of attack as mentioned earlier, just too many sql connections on that particular account at that time.

This should now be configured  to not occur in the future.
