QuoteToday we are happy to announce the release of TinyPortal v1.0, its been a long way from the last version and we are finally into getting a more stable package. TP 1.0 has many new features, but one of the main things are the ability to add "TP modules" through the portal itself. It will add more functions to it, but at the same time you decide which ones your portal should use.

For a quick list of the new features:

- enhanced article system, with BBC and Imported articles added. Article categories can be shown only to certain membergroups and articles can even have no stylesheet/template attached. Ideal for a totally blank article where you decides totally what goes in.

- Enhanced block system, by having more panels and many options for placement of blocks. Both horizontally, vertically and grid -based. Blocks also can be shown on several places, its settings shown on page where you tick off the spots you want it to show.

- Enhanced frontage/article category system where layout options allow you to show frontage in several different ways.

- Module system, where additional modules can work within the portal/SMF itself.

We hope this will spark your interest in TP and we look forward to adding new and exciting things for TP and its community!

"TinyPortal v1.0.5 beta 1"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As some of you may discovered we had a small April Fools joke going on April 1st. While it was fun doing it, it also actually had a real pre-beta up for download - but with a somewhat hidden link. We hope you saw the fun in that, and salute those that actually found the download.

Since then we fixed some newly discovered errors but we are now at the first beta of TP v1.0, ready for all of you to test out and use. Note that it is still beta software and as such are bound to have some errors yet.

Since v0.9 a lot of suggestions and improvements have been put forward, but not all have been included. We rethinked the generally internal nature of TP, with its internal Download Manager, internal Shoutbox etc. and came to the conclusion that a modular TP would be much better. Hence TP v1.0 now has a module feature. The first modules are already in the works, and 2 in-house ones are included: Simple Shoutbox and Advanced Shoutbox. These 2 are the previous shoutbox + advanced version of it, and they BOTH operate on the same shouts. You can choose either and freely mix them.

The new features are too many to list in this simple release topic, therefore 2 more have been created, one that details the new features/updates..especially for TP v0.9 users. The other one talks about some of the necessary changes which earlier TP's and TP themes will need to undertake. One big feature is that TP no longer requires SMF themes to be changed, instead the SMF layer system is used to place TP panels around the content.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NB: Those running v0.9 will need to un-install TP BEFORE attempting to update with v1.0.5. The reason is simply that many changes have been made to exisiting TP modifications of SMF files, and it will be more clean to remove those first, and then add the new ones. There are a couple of ways to do this, the primary being simply to press un-install in package manager. An another way could be to upload fresh SMF files from its update package then run the upgrade. That will wipe any trace of TP in SMF fles, but NOT the actual TP data itself! You can then safely restore all of it by installing TP v1.0 a fresh.
