Title: Domain verfication email (for customers who purchase domains)
Post by: Jason on October 29, 2008, 09:29:36 PM
I get this question from time to time and figured I'd post it here.

If you purchase a domain through Charlottezweb, you may get an email randomly with the subject:

"Important Notice: Please Verify Contact Data for your Domain Name(s)"

The body of the message will look like:

Quote
Dear Domain Holder,

This message is a reminder to help you keep the contact data associated with your domain registration up-to-date.

As of October 31, 2003 we are required by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to send you this reminder by the Anniversary date of each registered Domain Name that is subject to the terms and conditions of that organization.

Below is a list of domain names with your email address listed as the registrant or administrative contact.  The current contact information associated with the domain may be verified by following the link provided.

If any of the contact data is inaccurate, it must be corrected.  If you need assistance in accessing your account to make these updates, please reply to this email.  If the contact data is accurate, no further action is required to comply with this notice.

Please remember that under the terms of your registration agreement, the provision of false Whois (contact) information can be grounds for cancellation of your domain name registration.

Domain Names with Anniversary Dates between November 1 and November 30

Name:    Registration Date:
------    -----------------
snip           snip

Thank you for your attention.

Sincerely,

WDRP Compliance
Charlottezweb.com, LLC

Where I typed "snip" above, there will be information about your domain and a link to view the whois (contact) information on the domain.

This email is legitimate.

All you have to do is verify that the whois data is accurate.  For example, has your address, email, etc. changed since the domain was initially registered?

If you need to change/update any info, please email or open a ticket and I'll take care of it.

If everything is still correct, no action is required.

Thanks,
Jason

The 'Dear Domain Holder' is very confusing and is usually been used by the spammers. For example Paypal or Ebay never use the expression 'Dear client' but the real name of the client.

I agree but it's an effort by eNom to avoid confusing people.  Sometimes the registrant's first name is not the name of the person who is setup to get the notifications, for example.

Good feedback though.  That's part of the reason I wanted to post something here just in case because it has concerned some people.
