I'm going to be getting the Special Package here on this website sooner or later, since it's cheap paid hosting and I've used this host before, so I am going to having a SMF Forum and Blog on the main domain, along with a HTML Coded main website and a few PDF Documents, images, and other stuff.
But on my Subdomain, I'm going to be putting a DiscusWare Freeware CGI Forum, HTML Coded Main Website, and a Few PDF Documents, Images, and other stuff on it as well. On the DiscusWare Freeware Forum, does it work well? I'm going to save a MySQL database for my main domain.
I've seen it in use and I've only posted on it once. My current free host doesn't allow CGI scripts. My free host is a cheap host, they promise stuff like email, Script Installer, etc. but when you sign up, they say that these features are not available to free users and you have to upgrade.

I've personally never seen it installed so I can't comment. I'm not aware of any customers using it.
A quick look at their website and it looks like it's not very active. Not sure what kind of support you'd get out of it. The most recent posts on their support forum are from 2009. In addition, while I can't say with 100% certainty, it looks like their latest version, 4.1, came out March of 2007. Appears to be quite the stale project, which in turn can lead to security risks with something that old.
EDIT: Ah yes, latest update is from March '07 (http://support.discusware.com/center/resources/notes/410prod.html). I'd avoid it personally.
Is there any SMF alternatives?
I am guessing I could download SMF, but some people complained about it having black text on a colored background.
I think I'm going to stick with a SMF Alternative, maybe use the YaBB SE 2.0 Classic theme that I've been using on my old forum.
I've already set up this DiscusWare CGI Forum and it works okay, I mean a bit slow sometimes, but that's the host, and thats what you get with free hosting.
Can't wait to get paid hosting. I most defiently won't neglect a paid hosting account like I am the free hosting account due to it being so slow. All that's on it is the DiscusWare Forum, 1 PDF File, and 1 HTML Document. It claims to come with cPanel, which it does, and come with POP3 Email but so far I tried setting the so-called POP3 email the free account came with and it won't let me enter my account, because when I enter the CORRECT password and username, it will say "Incorrect Password." I can't even log into webmail on it too!
The only thing special about that free host is the Softaculous, which in my opinion is a bit more organized than Fantastico, but they are pretty much the same thing. It's just like my old free host, ByetHost, they lie so much saying "Hey, it has POP3 email and everything you'd get at a paid host but for free!" and "The only thing you don't get with us is a domain." It's a gimmick. The only host I've ever really trusted is a paid host and the only paid host I'VE EVER trusted personally is CharlottezWeb. Keep up the good work!
EDIT: I think my Model T Club members will be thanking me for switching to SMF. They can now finally easily post something, add attachments, and add Smilies, all at a click of a button. Plus, the softwares free for me. All I have to pay is for the hosting.
BTW, Did I forget to mention that ByetHost Free hosting says it comes with "Fantastico" and "Free POP3 Email" but I never got those features. When I got my ByetHost account set up and clicked on "Email Accounts" all it says is an advertisement to upgrade to paid hosting to get that feature. Same with the Fantastico on that ByetHost. Way to go ByetHost and Heliohost, you both were dumb free hosts. But ByetHost is good when you get used to them, they are always online about 95% of the time and never had a problem with them.ByetHost is probably best of Free Hosting, but Paid Hosting is alot better than any free hosting.

Is there any SMF alternatives?
Sure -- there are lots of php/mysql-based forum scripts out there.

There are lots of themes available that change the look (colors) of your forum. That's an easy problem to address. :)
Perhaps I could use phpBB for the first time. I mean it's something new.
But last time I used phpBB on a "test run" it wouldn't post any of the boards I put up.
I'm use to SMF, because I've been using it for about 2 years now. But I am also tired of it, too. Time to try something new.

Hi,
What part are you tired of?.
Considering most variables and headaches, I really think you can't you can go wrong with SMF. If there is a problem in most cases, easy to fix, active support community, plenty of Mods to add functionality and or enhancements. Plenty of themes, and easy to create your own theme if you desire, for the most part. If you want to dress things up and add additional functionality, you could add a portal (Don't know if your using one already).
At the same time, there are a few things I hate about SMF, but balancing most variables IMHO, SMF is one of the better choices out of the free forum scripts. :) PHPBB is good as well..
Regards,
MK
I personally think I'm going to stick with this CGI Forum script.
Decided I'm going to use MyBB. I LOVE MyBB, IMHO it's better than SMF.
