Title: COMPLETE -- Tempest :: It's time to upgrade!
Post by: Jason on April 13, 2014, 05:19:07 PM
Greetings to all customers on Tempest!

To start -- I'd like to say "THANKS!" because Tempest is our oldest server.  The fact that you're on it makes me smile!
(Don't get me wrong -- it still outperforms many out there!)  :)

I'm pleased to say that you are about to be UPGRADED to a brand new powerhouse server:  Thunderbolt (http://www.charlottezweb.com/forums/index.php?topic=1951.0)

The current plan is to migrate everyone within the next 2-3 weeks.

Please contact me if you have any questions otherwise I will be updating this thread very soon with a schedule.

Cheers,
Jason

This migration will happen in the next week.  The following email will be sent to customers within the next hour.

--------------------

Greetings from Charlottezweb,

In the event you didn't see this thread on our forum (http://www.charlottezweb.com/forums/index.php?topic=1961.0), we're in the process of upgrading several of our older servers and migrating them to newer, more powerful configurations.

Tempest is one we're targeting presently to migrate to our newest server "Thunderbolt."

Thunderbolt is quite a powerhouse (http://www.charlottezweb.com/forums/index.php?topic=1951.0) and has been performing incredibly well since it was provisioned a little over a month ago.

What's needed from you?

I will be doing migrations this week every evening.  If I don't hear from you in advance, the plan will be to migrate your site this coming Friday or Saturday.  I will handle the migration for you but I will need your help in the following areas:

1.  If you have a specific timeframe requirement, please contact me immediately so we can work on scheduling it.
2.  If you run a dynamic site (such as a forum or database-driven site where it's updated constantly, contact me so we can figure out a gameplan to minimize impact.
3.  If your site is using custom code or scripts that haven't been updated in several years, it may not function properly on current versions of PHP and/or MySQL.  Please contact me asap to discuss if this may be the case.  There may be a temporary workaround but upgrading your site will likely be required.
4.  If you manage your domain name, you will need to update your nameservers to the new ones after the move is complete to ensure your site doesn't go offline once Tempest is retired.

Please reach out to me if you're flexible with your move day and/or to coordinate any specifics you need.  I'll of course do my best to accommodate everyone's needs but this move needs to happen this week to coordinate with larger cPanel security updates we have in flight.

The current plan is to shut Tempest off on May 9 so I need your assistance asap.

As always, thank you for your business and I look forward to upgrading your site to a more powerful experience!

Cheers,
Jason

There are about a dozen customers on Tempest that I have not yet heard from.  I will begin migrating them over the next several evenings if I do not hear back before then.

I will send another notice from our billing system within the next 15 minutes.

Thank you,
Jason

The final remaining accounts on Tempest have been moved and their owners informed as of yesterday.

PLEASE make sure to confirm your nameservers have been adjusted according to the emails sent.

If the old nameservers are not replaced, your site(s) will go down when Tempest is powered off this coming weekend.

Thank you,
Jason
