Title: April 6, 2006 :: Cyclone apache restart
Post by: Jason on April 06, 2006, 08:08:40 PM
It appears Cyclone experienced an http-only outage that lasted less than 10 minutes.  Alertra monitors every 5 minutes and it only picked up an outage from 6:17pm EST to 6:200pm EST (5 minutes).  Potentially, it could've been down an additional 4 minutes (thus avoiding the prior Alertra check) though I don't think that was the case.

I'm looking into the cause now and will post what I find.

Thanks,
Jason

We confirmed it was just an apache (httpd) restart.  Traffic and loads spiked momentarily so our monitoring system shut that service down and restarted resulting in the brief outage.  You may have noticed slower response times leading right up to the restart.

Things are looking great again so this looks like a standard service restart.

Thanks,
Jason

FYI, we've increased the tolerance of our monitoring setup to allow for a higher load threshhold before it will restart services.  This should reduce the odds of this happening again.
