Title: DVD Profiler 3.1, Love It!
Post by: Mark on January 14, 2008, 02:19:44 PM
Is anyone here an absolute movie buff? I am, and I've been using a software program called DVD Profiler to catalog my DVD's so I can keep track of them (I let family borrow them) for awhile now. I started using it actually because I was bored one day a couple of years ago and came across a link to this software, and now I use it all the time!

It's pretty neat because you can keep track of who's borrowing your movies, when you've watched a movie, view easter eggs, information, and tons of other stuff. Also, if you have the Pro (paid) version, as I do, you can show off your movie collection online! Why would you want to? Because it's cool! :P

Anyways, check it out: http://www.invelos.com/dvdpro/Info.aspx

Yep, I ran a website for a little while using a script that's available that dumps xml files from that software.  However, it was compromised based on a script problem that caused some issues on that server so I ended up abandoning it.

But the actual dvdprofiler local software is awesome.  I do'nt think I've tried that version yet though.  It's been about a year since I've played with it.

You should try the new version, it's way better than version 2!

I should also note that this is the same company that made version 2 (InterVocative) they just changed their name.

I'll have to see what my license entails and whether I can upgrade for free.

I'll have to give it a look  :)

Yeah, if you paid for a previous version you can in fact upgrade to v3 for free, it will tell you how. I did that for mine.

I was trying to think of the original developer -- Intervocative.  I read how the main guy splintered off to the new company name.  Interesting.

I just downloaded the latest version.  Will have to find my backup files and license and see what they've done with it.  :)

This was the vampire collection I had at one point (and I actually had more than what's listed here):

Unfortunately, I sold that collection off.   :'(

This is the script that will take extracts and publish a website with your results:  http://www.phpmyprofiler.de/

Note:  I ran a past version and had the entire site compromised so I'd be careful about using it unless they've addressed it fully since then.  However, the script was awesome and let you put your collection online easily.

Heh, just a bit.  I still do but I went through a "collection" period where I was trying to own/see every vampire movie I could but it started getting quickly out of hand so I had to cut myself off for good.  :)

I have a few of my favs (probably less than 5) but I sold the rest.

Wow, you and my Fiancee would get along then. She loves everything about vampire's. We have some vampire movies (we Netflix a lot of movies these days) and she's got quite a collection of vampire books too.

I've read some but I tend to do most of my reading online so it's hard to sneak offline to a real book lately.

I typically throw in a movie or two at night in the office and semi-watch them while working.  When I used Blockbuster online, I went through movies like crazy that way although I don't pay total attention to them.

(When I sold it, I had 214 vampire movies from all over the place -- not just US movies).

I finally installed the latest version of DVD Profiler last night.  Pretty nifty.  :)

Maybe it's just me but when I add a movie, it takes anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute to download the profile.  Is that normal for you or is it my connection?  (my RoadRunner has been dramatically slower the last week or so)

It could very well be your connection because just last night I added a couple of movies and it was quite fast.

I think someone new must've recently subscribed that shares my box and they probably knocked my connection or set it over capacity.  My speeds have been horrible at night.   It took about 10 minutes to download the profiles for about 15 movies last night.
