Simple Machines is happy to bring you a new beta for SMF 2.0. Following the release of Beta 2 a number of bugs were reported by Charter Members which affected the operation of the forum, including install and upgrade. This release should address all those key reported issues and provide a bit more stability for users until the release of Beta 3. A change log is attached to this post, but some of the key changes in this beta include:
Upgrade and install tools fixed to work correctly on PHP4.
Fixed issues with package manager not actioning database changes correctly.
Fixed issues with search management and repair functionality.
Numerous improvements to the WYSIWYG editor, including some bugs using it in non-WYSWIYG mode.
New file permissions feature in the package manager to enable management of file permissions.
Package manager now remembers what file permission it has changed to install a package and offers to set them back for you.
Added a javascript "Select" link to code snippets to allow a user to quickly select this text.
The above is only a small subset of the bugs fixed, we do hope this makes life a little simpler for our Charter Members.
Upgrading from Beta 2 is easy. As there have been no database changes in this release users with unmodified forums can simply upload the files from the downloaded package and Beta 2.1 will work right away.
Those users who are not yet using Beta 2 are asked to please refer to the SMF 2.0 Beta 2 Released topic for more information about installing and upgrading. Note one piece of key advice from Beta 2 remains - we do not recommend running this beta on a production forum!
Regards,
Simple Machines
