Here are some gathered materials on Google's PR (page rank) system:

PageRank Explained
PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important."

Important, high-quality sites receive a higher PageRank, which Google remembers each time it conducts a search. Of course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don't match your query. So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines all aspects of the page's content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it's a good match for your query.

The most accurate way to view your PR is through google's ToolBar found here: http://toolbar.google.com/.  Toolbar installs into Internet Explorer as a tool that blocks popups, displays your PR, allows more efficient searching, etc.  I don't have a standpoint (pro or con) to installing this, so do so at your own judgement.  I'm currently running it.

Once you install it, enable the page rank meter.  This should display the PR value of whatever site you are on.

http://pagerank.net is also a site that will easily tell you your PR values, though I hear it's not necessarily as current/accurate as the ToolBar.

I hate google!

Nassty search engine, impossible to high rank with a new site!

Unless, you can persuade anyone and their dog to link to you!

Its bases for ratings seem mostly to be based upon other site links, or age of the site!

Sitemaps make little difference Ive found!

hate it! mean search engine :(

I have heard that also.  The more links you have out there, the more relevance google places on your site.

Jason, is there a way, I know it's only one site, but is there a way that we can have a page on this site to show all of the domains hosted with you?  Just a thought.  I would probably ask this on SMF and Tiny Portal also.

Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day.  Teach a man to fish, and you'll never get another day's work out of him again.

There's a thread around here somewhere that someone started to post your hosted sites in.  If it the site is suitable, I also have a place where I will list them on the main site by client request.

I've got it on my to-do list to have a "testimonials" page added at some point in the near future.  I plan on including names/sites if people are interested in that too.  I get feedback from time to time that I'd love to post somewhere that prospective customers can see, but that will be purely voluntary if I go that route.

Great, thanks.  Will keep you posted.

Mark

oooh! Yes, you can count me in too of course :D

Jason

Thanks.  I'll add you both to the site later today, and contact you again (if you're interested) when I create the testimonials page.

Jason

I added you on the normal site for now, but I'll reapproach this when I get to the testimonials page.  Thanks!
