The following was emailed to all clients on September 22, 2004:

I'd like to inform everyone of a scheduled server reboot set for this coming Friday.  Our datacenter is installing remote reboot-enabled power strips that will enable us to control our server's power remotely.  In the event of any future problems, this enhancement will enable us to power our servers up and down without going through the data-center's support staff which is a fantastic time saver.

The migration to the new power strips is scheduled to take place between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM EST.  They estimate an outtage of no more than 20 minutes, though it's highly likely that it will be more like 3-5 minutes total.

I will update everyone via email once I've confirmed that our server has been successfully upgraded.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to post them in this thread.

Kindest regards,
Jason

I informed everyone of a scheduled server outtage for today that would result in a few minutes of downtime while remote-reboot is setup by our datacenter.

I've been alerted that our server will now be impacted this coming Tuesday, September 28th instead of today as planned.  They decided to split the datacenter into two parts so they could manage the upgrades more efficiently.  The first half has been completed without any difficulties.

As of now, the scheduled outtage for us today will be delayed until Tuesday between the hours of 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM EST.  I will email you back once I have confirmation that everything has been completed successfully.

As a follow-up, this power-down took place successfully as planned on Tuesday, September 28th at approximately 10:20am EST.  Monitoring services show that the total downtime was less than 10 minutes.
