Hi Jason, I know that your servers support IMAP but I was wondering if it supported LDAP so I can sync my contacts too? If so, how do I go about setting it up?

Jason

Howdy,

I've been looking into this a bit since I hadn't heard of LDAP in the way you're referring to it myself before.  Is assume it's different than lightweight directory access protocol or are they one and the same?

At any rate, I asked for some guidance and was told that there isn't anything integrated/available on the cPanel side that integrates with LDAP mail-wise.  They said it might be possible to customize something that would but they advised against it for a shared environment, especially if it isn't directly integrated with and supported by cPanel.

There are some php/LDAP services I've seen but nothing related to the mail service (exim) cPanel uses that I've found.

Yeah, I was referring the lightweight directory access protocol. I was under the impression it was used as a contact list in which everyone in your email environment would be able to have the same contacts (or in my case on my personal website just synced contacts between my computers while using IMAP because I'm the only e-mail user) but after researching it a little more myself I guess that's not what it's intended for (or rather, more complicated then just that). :-X

There's a new webmail client (IMAP-based) that cPanel now offers in all builds called Roundcube (http://roundcube.net).  I've been waiting for Roundcube to hit cPanel's Stable build for over a month and it came out towards the end of last week.

If all goes well, my plan is to upgrade our servers to that cPanel build next week.

I haven't played with it at all but maybe it offers more contact sharing features than the older webmail clients presently in cPanel.

Ooh, that's a sexy looking webmail client. :D
