Hey Jason,

Were any servers downgraded to PHP 4.4.7?

They should not have been.  I got your other email.  Blizzard was incorrectly downgraded it appears.  We'll get this recompiled now.

You can check php on the server status page:

Thanks for the heads-up!

Jason

The recompile is complete and we're back on 5.2.4.

Are the issues resolved for you now?

I had two sites effected - both are running well now.

Is there a way to ensure this doesn't happen with other updates?

Definitely, I'll run through them myself personally going forward.  We updated 7 servers on Wednesday early morning and the other 6 were all properly upgraded.  I didn't have a reason to challenge the fact that it wasn't done correctly, but that's certainly a lesson learned for me.  (Never assume anything!)  The other factor specifically with this server was that Bind died on it the following morning.  So it's possible php was on the correct version when the upgrade was completed that night but was then manually rebuilt the following morning when Bind was repaired, and was incorrectly recompiled to the latest 4.x stable.  (Not every host is running 5.x yet)

I haven't heard any reports of a problem over the last few days because I think most scripts are able to jump between versions fairly easily but this certainly isn't true 100% of the time as we saw today.  :)
