July 13, 2014 :: Sandstorm - Scheduled Server Maintenance (outage)

At approximately 5am EST this coming Sunday (July 13, 2014) server Sandstorm will be taken offline for around 30 minutes due to a fan within the power supply that is non-functional.

[Sandstorm] ...has been found to have an inoperable fan within the PSU (Power Supply Unit). This means the PSU currently has no way of actively dispersing heat and will continue to operate at elevated temperatures until addressed. If left unrepaired the server may overheat and cause unexpected downtime. Also, in the event of a sudden crash data may become corrupted, which would itself be likely to require additional downtime to effect a restore. In an effort to proactively address this issue and ensure data integrity, we would like to take the server offline as soon as possible to replace the faulty hardware. Downtime for this maintenance averages 30 minutes, though it is possible for this window to be marginally extended in some cases by 15 to 20 minutes. As such, the maintenance for sandstorm.charlottezweb.com has been tentatively scheduled to take place at 5AM EDT July 13th.

All services on server Sandstorm will be unavailable during this maintenance window.

This maintenance was completed as scheduled. 

Pingdom monitored the outage from 5:01am Eastern to 5:31am Eastern.
