This post is being emailed to all clients on Hurricane tonight (April 3, 2007):
(Didn't get this email?  Contact me to have your address updated in our systems)

This message only applies to clients who have accounts on our server "Hurricane."

Hurricane's secondary harddrive has failed and needs to be replaced.  In an attempt to provide as much advanced notice as possible to you and to schedule around a "quiet" timeframe, I have scheduled the swap to occur this coming Sunday (April 8, 2007) around 10pm EST.

Once the datacenter begins the swap, they will power down the server, swap out the secondary drive and restart.  If all goes well, the outage should be approximately 15 minutes though it could take longer.  This is a pretty standard procedure so I don't anticipate any problems.

I will post updates to this thread once the swap begins (and ends) and we can use this as a point of communication if needed.

Thank you,
Jason

Ouch, I'll be off the grid for 7 days starting that morning...how can I be sure that my site isn't going to go down for the count while I'm gone until I can come back to fix it?

Jason

This is the secondary harddrive.  The only thing stored on it is nightly and weekly backups.  It serves no other purpose.

That answers that then....good luck with the swap.  :)

Jason

Thanks!

If it *had* to happen, I'm very happy it was the secondary and not the primary.

Reminder:  We are still proceeding with this harddrive swap at 10pm EST -- approx 20 mins from now.

I will keep this thread updated.

The swap is complete.

Alertra reported it at just over 10 mins though it was out a few mins before it saw it.  I estimate we were out no more than 15 as expected.

Thank you.
