For approximately the last hour, there has been significant latency across the datacenter.  Certain servers were loading pages but very slowly and in a few cases, servers showed down for a few minutes to Alertra due to extreme latency.  (You can refer to this week's service report when I post it on Monday).

I was unable to reach the datacenter's websites during this time.  I spoke with them to be sure they were aware (which they were) and about 15-20  minutes later all service appears restored.

I will update this thread once I can get more information about what happened.

Thank you,
Jason

The cause was a DDOS attack.  I've asked for some additional information but I'm going to give them awhile to respond since they're likely going to be answering tickets and calls for the next bit.

Some "rookie" questions from me :-\

Does the datacenter run DDoS protection & do they  followup on these attacks?

Definitely -- they continually monitor the network for interruptions.  They do follow up with the customers that were being targetted but it's not always possible to follow up on the attack source.  A DDOS can involve hundreds or thousands of machines working together to flood the network.

In yesterday's example, they were seeing almost 10Gigabits of traffic per second which is why the impact was larger than typical.
