December 29, 2004 :: Mail service outage

Currently, most of the mail services are down on the server.  We're restoring a particularly large database right now which has caused very high server loads.  To compensate for this and ensure that the server doesn't go down, our monitoring software has temporarily halted mail.  These servers will be automatically restarted once the restore is complete and loads return to normal.

I apologize for the delay.  I believe we've been restoring for nearly 30 minutes now and I don't anticipate it taking much longer.  Httpd is running fine so your sites should all be running normally.  Email will just not work at this time.  If you need to reach me now, please feel free to email charlottezweb [at] gmail.com or post here.

If you were online late last evening (between 11pm-1am EST) you may have witnessed the same issue with a few brief http outages.

Regards,
Jason

The restore has completed and all services are running smoothly again.  The total mail outage was approximately 50 minutes though all other services (most importantly httpd) ran throughout the whole process.

Can you email me with what your settings are?  I'm still a little concerned that the DNS redirections that you're doing on your end may be impacting other functions.  I sent you an email a few minutes ago.  That could be connected.
